A Look Back on 2013 – But Not My 2013

I could tell you about my year but if you’ve read the blog or followed me on Facebook / Twitter you’ll have had the highlights. I’ve spent the year with my fabulous family, writing for some brilliant clients, loving living in and exploring my fabulous home in North Yorkshire.

Now, being a keen moneysaver, a fan of all things frugal, reducing waste and plain old common sense I follow a woman called Ms Jack Monroe. If you’ve never heard of her then I suggest you look her up. She shines a light on the plight of many who live below the breadline and has done some fabulous work which has helped many.

Why is Jack such a great person to follow? Asides from her fabulous budget recipes (I’m talking pennies) Jack actually knows and understands what living on a very sparse income means and so writes from a perspective that others perhaps don’t have such a clear insight into.

So, in an effort to highlight her work, share with you the fabulous resource her website is and to open a few eyes my first post of 2013 is not about my 2013, but hers. Read more here, it makes for great reading.

If you are a Tweeter you can find Jack here.

*Jack isn’t a personal friend or colleague but I admire the work that she does, applaud her attitude and have fallen in love with her kale pesto recipe. Three good reasons to points readers who haven’t heard of her in her direction.

On a Bedroom Tart Up Mission

As from January I will be on a mission. Kieran’s bedroom has been made over TWICE since we moved in a year ago and Taylor recently got a new bed and a fabulous little chair and footstool set which he calls his Numberjacks chair (CBeebies has a lot to answer for). The only bedroom that has not been given any special attention is ours!

Our bedroom is the largest of the three being over 16ft x 14ft and also doubles as my office during the day. I have a beautiful white shaker style desk and filing cabinet which suits the room beautifully. I have two large sash windows that let the light in and…. an uncomfy bed that desperately needs replacing, including a new mattress, a Argos quick chuck together thing which resembles a wonky wardrobe (Roy’s wardrobe is outside the bedroom in a build in cupboard and I want that back for storage!), ONE bedside table and a set of drawers that have seen better days.

I am on a mission!

I want a new bed, something like this…..

Chantilly Double Bed

Bedding and the other linens such as matching curtains……

Pink Elise Bedding from Dorma
Pink Elise Bedding from Dorma (Roy doesn’t mind girlie stuff in the bedroom thankfully

Some bedroom wardrobes that don’t look like the doors will fall off like mine do!

BIANCA V2 WARDROBE-625x550

And a whole host of other bedroom (and home) items. Poor Roy, I haven’t fully explained how much of the house I’m planning on re-doing in the new year just yet. I’ve started to collect inspirational images on Pinterest and have many more to add. I’d love to see to see your top homes / interior design boards as I’m always looking for new ideas!
