So Nutritional Supplements Aren’t Just For Bodybuilders?

Since mid-December my inbox (and my postman delivered junk mail) has been littered with get slim quick miracle products and the latest fads. The “health” market must cost consumers a devastating amount during the first quarter of the year especially which is sad considering the promises that are made rarely pay off.

I myself have been on a diet since I was eighteen, for medical reasons weight loss does not come easily to me and so I too have been enticed into wonder-cures and quick-fixes in the past too. What I have come to realise is that losing weight and becoming fitter is not about fad diets, it is about embarking on a new lifestyle and making positive and informed choices.

Exercise and diet go hand in hand when it comes to building an altogether healthier body. For those who enjoy exercise and have a regime in place the next step for many is often to look at natural health supplements. Despite popular belief sports nutrition and health supplements are not simply for those wanting to look like a body builder.

Fat burners for example are a well-known and much used product for those looking to be leaner as part of their health and fitness goals. Fat burners will not however melt away fat as you sit on the sofa and eat crisps (sorry!). The way these supplements work is to help you shed excess fat as part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle, incorporating a healthy approach to eating and increased activity.

The fat burners work to increase your metabolic rate. This is basically the rate at which our bodies burn up calories. If you are consuming more calories than your body needs and aren’t working any excess off then no, fat burners aren’t for you however for those serious about changing their habits and the way they look (and feel) this is one example of a nutritional supplement which will give you the boost you need.

Supplements are not wonder cures or magic potions; they are a boost to give you the extra power you need to meet your health and fitness goals quicker than you would without them.

Anyone who knows me personally knows that I have the clean eating and healthy approach down to a fine art however couldn’t run if my bum was on fire. I walk miles each week and for me this ticks my exercise quota. I do know however that if I wanted to speed up reaching my end goal health and fitness-wise that I would need to put the extra in and there could come a time when using a product such as a fat burner or other associated aids might be appropriate for me.

So there you are, my task today was to dispel a myth and in this case it is the misunderstanding about health and sport nutrition supplements.

Caption: IMPORTANT: If you do decide to investigate the use of health supplements please make sure you buy them from a reputable and knowledgeable source to ensure you are getting a safe and quality product.

Positively Examining Your Health With Patient.co.uk

It is New Year, I am still only 5ft 2″ and I haven’t magically lost a few stone over Christmas. To be blunt I’m feeling fairly shocking in myself and know now is the time (no time like the present) to have a good look at my weight and my health overall and look at what I can do to change things for the better. I have two young and active boys and if I don’t make changes soon-ish I will struggle to keep up with them.

Patient.co.uk, as well as offering oodles of advice on health, diet, fitness and basically all things wellness-related have a handy survey you can take which enables you to input your data and pinpoint basically what could be done better (and what is already pretty good) and get you moving in the right direction.

According to quick test below (it says it takes 30 seconds but it doesn’t even take that) I am healthy-ish but there are still things I can do to improve. Having done the test I have been given the option to take a fuller health test. It’s free so why not?
The MyHealth Test takes ten minutes, or just under in my experience.
The results:
p1
p2
Ok, so not utterly fantastic then.
Normally this would have me searching for the nearest non-healthy snack however Patient.co.uk now offered me a chance to look at my lifestyle factors, see what I could do pro-actively to improve my health and set goals. Despite the not-so shocking revelation that I am not a superfit and healthy bod I was left feeling quite positive, motivated and looking forward to putting these plans in place and making changes rather than whinging about them.
If you’d like to take the initial test see the widget below and then if you really want to examine your health more closely and make positive and long-term changes keep going!

*This post was written on behalf of Patient.co.uk for a fee however this in no way alters the fact that I find it a very canny tool which has helped me make plans to get my health back on track.
