Patreon Patron: My Way of Supporting Creativity

Patreon Patron

As you may know, the last six months or so I decided to slow down, to take stock and to do things a little differently. I’m being more mindful, I’m doing new things and I’m appreciating things more. It’s this focus on new things and helping others that’s led me to be a Patreon Patron to the lovely Daisy from My Green Cow.

I’ve “known” Daisy a while, having watched her creativity and planning videos for ages, and we’ve been members of the same planning groups etc. This video today introduced me to Patreon and I loved the idea, and have decided to become one of Daisy’s patrons.

Basically, I pledge a certain amount of money a month (there are different tiers) which supports Daisy and I get some treats too. I won’t go into the ins and outs of Patreon myself, however, there’s a great explanation right here.

I really do think that this is a great way to support creative types, to help them get their businesses going and so on. Daisy’s link is here and tells you more about what she offers and you can easily search to find other artists and creatives you might like the idea of being a Patron to.

Don’t get me wrong, my deciding to become a Patron isn’t entirely selfless. As well as giving me the warm and fuzzy feeling you get when you do something for someone else, I get something back. I’ve been a fan of Daisy’s doodles and her journalling skills for some time and so by pledging a relatively small amount each month I get exclusive pieces just for me (and the warm and fuzzies).

Who knows, I might up my pledge or decide to add another creator to my pledge page in time. Is Patreon something that you’ve heard of? What do you think? I think you might be surprised by how many creators are on the site and how fabulous some of their work is!

Move Musings: Where Would We Go?

Back in August we moved house. I distinctly remember the words “I am never moving again” being uttered. Don’t worry, I don’t have any plans to move in the near future but we’ve been talking, Roy and I. For most of our lives (all of Roy’s life) we’ve lived in Yorkshire. We’re entertaining the idea of one day moving a little further afield.

Now there’s nowhere on earth quite like Yorkshire. That doesn’t mean that living somewhere else, perhaps when the boys have grown isn’t an option for us. I like to take the stance that nothing is permanent and if we ever did decide to move, to try somewhere new (variety being the spice of life and all that) we could always just book removals and come back again if we didn’t like it.

The question is, where would we go?

FindhornFindhorn has always held a special place in our hearts. I lived a few miles away as a child and Roy and I had our honeymoon there. Scotland is a wonderful place with fabulous people and we could be very tempted! Between the gorgeous beach and bay, the Findhorn Foundation (I haven’t had the opportunity to visit the Foundation but would love to), nearby Forres, Elgin, Nairn and even Inverness if you travel about 23miles west along the coastline, it’s a tempting thought.

Brighton is at the other end of the spectrum to Findhorn yet there are days that I see posts from friends and what not online and could happily call a Brighton Removals Company and jump ship. I love the energy of Brighton and again, it’s a seaside town. Clearly, I have saltwater in my blood. Despite being much larger than where we are now, Brighton has quite a community feel (I’m told) and that, alongside festivals and fab architecture makes it a very attractive destination.

I think if you asked Roy and he couldn’t choose either of these he’d choose either somewhere picturesque and remote in Wales (with very very good WIFI obviously) or Cornwall (mostly for the proper Cornish pasties and even better custard).

I think that if we were to move away we’d probably move somewhere a little closer to the Yorkshire coast. A retired couple who are friends of ours have a static caravan up near Redcar, stay there all week, coming back for the odd weekend during the spring/summer to tend to the garden mostly and then come back full-time in the Winter. What a wonderful way to live!

What about you? Have you moved around? If you had the freedom to move tomorrow where would you relocate to?
