Back in August we moved house. I distinctly remember the words “I am never moving again” being uttered. Don’t worry, I don’t have any plans to move in the near future but we’ve been talking, Roy and I. For most of our lives (all of Roy’s life) we’ve lived in Yorkshire. We’re entertaining the idea of one day moving a little further afield.
Now there’s nowhere on earth quite like Yorkshire. That doesn’t mean that living somewhere else, perhaps when the boys have grown isn’t an option for us. I like to take the stance that nothing is permanent and if we ever did decide to move, to try somewhere new (variety being the spice of life and all that) we could always just book removals and come back again if we didn’t like it.
The question is, where would we go?
Findhorn has always held a special place in our hearts. I lived a few miles away as a child and Roy and I had our honeymoon there. Scotland is a wonderful place with fabulous people and we could be very tempted! Between the gorgeous beach and bay, the Findhorn Foundation (I haven’t had the opportunity to visit the Foundation but would love to), nearby Forres, Elgin, Nairn and even Inverness if you travel about 23miles west along the coastline, it’s a tempting thought.
Brighton is at the other end of the spectrum to Findhorn yet there are days that I see posts from friends and what not online and could happily call a Brighton Removals Company and jump ship. I love the energy of Brighton and again, it’s a seaside town. Clearly, I have saltwater in my blood. Despite being much larger than where we are now, Brighton has quite a community feel (I’m told) and that, alongside festivals and fab architecture makes it a very attractive destination.
I think if you asked Roy and he couldn’t choose either of these he’d choose either somewhere picturesque and remote in Wales (with very very good WIFI obviously) or Cornwall (mostly for the proper Cornish pasties and even better custard).
I think that if we were to move away we’d probably move somewhere a little closer to the Yorkshire coast. A retired couple who are friends of ours have a static caravan up near Redcar, stay there all week, coming back for the odd weekend during the spring/summer to tend to the garden mostly and then come back full-time in the Winter. What a wonderful way to live!
What about you? Have you moved around? If you had the freedom to move tomorrow where would you relocate to?
