We will be adding Polar Express to our Christmas favourites!

This weekend I inherited another child for the weekend, my nephew.  J is 10yrs old and finding activities that suit a 5yr old and a 10yr old and keep them both occupied is no mean feat! I fell back on my old friend, the DVD player for help.

Warner Brothers had sent us Polar Express to review and the timing really couldn’t have been better! Tucked up on Sunday morning in PJ’s and dressing gowns, all snuggled up under a duvet, you could have heard a pin drop when Polar Express came on.

I hadn’t seen Polar Express before this weekend so wasn’t sure what to expect. What we watched was a magical tale, that did indeed keep the attention of both the 5yr and the 10yrs old (and the 1yr old too for the most part!) with it’s great music, drama and storyline.

I won’t say any more (I wouldn’t want to spoil the story for you!) but needless to say, this is now firmly up there on our favourite Christmas films and I can see it being watched more than once before this festive season is over!.

Thanks Warner Brothers, the boys give this DVD a big…………………..

Thumbs Up!

Sack the Xmas shopping, I’m planning my summer holidays!

Last year we did the whole cheap and cheerful couple of nights at a motorway hotel whilst we took the kids to Drayton Manor (Thomasland!) and the like. It was a great holiday but for next year we are looking for something a little more… upmarket.

I don’t do camping (anything that involves a trek to a shower block to be confronted by dinner plate size spiders is a no-go!), and Roy doesn’t want to spend half the holiday driving great distances. We’ve decided to stay a little closer to home and search for cottages to rent in Yorkshire.

We have a wealth of local attractions that we want to explore with the boys and ideally would love to find somewhere close to the coast (no seaside visit can be as good as a visit to Whitby, complete with fish and chips from The Magpie!).  I love the idea of a cottage, room to move about, it doesn’t matter if the kids are a tad noisy, and it means we have the freedom to eat at “home” then fall into bed (whether this is food I cook or a takeaway).

A cottage ticks all the boxes so I’ll be searching Sykes Cottages this year for our Yorkshire break, and who knows, it may become an annual thing “The Cawood tour of the UK, one cottage at a time”.
