Last year we did the whole cheap and cheerful couple of nights at a motorway hotel whilst we took the kids to Drayton Manor (Thomasland!) and the like. It was a great holiday but for next year we are looking for something a little more… upmarket.
I don’t do camping (anything that involves a trek to a shower block to be confronted by dinner plate size spiders is a no-go!), and Roy doesn’t want to spend half the holiday driving great distances. We’ve decided to stay a little closer to home and search for cottages to rent in Yorkshire.
We have a wealth of local attractions that we want to explore with the boys and ideally would love to find somewhere close to the coast (no seaside visit can be as good as a visit to Whitby, complete with fish and chips from The Magpie!). I love the idea of a cottage, room to move about, it doesn’t matter if the kids are a tad noisy, and it means we have the freedom to eat at “home” then fall into bed (whether this is food I cook or a takeaway).
A cottage ticks all the boxes so I’ll be searching Sykes Cottages this year for our Yorkshire break, and who knows, it may become an annual thing “The Cawood tour of the UK, one cottage at a time”.
