On Christmas Day, Elton John and his partner of 18 years, David Furness became parents to a baby boy with the help of an unnamed surrogate. David & Elton tied the knot in a civil ceremony in 2005 and are the very picture of a committed couple (in my opinion).
The couple have named their son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John. A big name for a little boy, who weighed in at a respectable 7lbs 15oz. Thankfully for Zachary, his new parents haven’t followed the celeb trend of giving their children wacky names! There will be a lot of hoo-ha about Elton and David adopting a baby and I want to know what you think.
I’m not looking for “Two men raising a child is wrong” but what I wonder is are they too old? Elton is 68 and David 48yrs. Many would say that it is entirely plausible that Zachary will lose one of his parents at a fairly tender age. After all, at 20yrs old, Elton will be 88yrs – which while by today’s standard isn’t ancient, isn’t the most spritely of ages! That said, I am 28 and my husband is 33 years old, and we could be run over by a bus tomorrow, leaving two small boys behind, whilst Elton could live on to 100 (or more!) and remain in good health. Who knows?
Personally I’m thrilled for the pair and I’m sure Zachary will have a fun and stable upbringing in the Furness-John household – again the couple don’t seem to be the type to flash their son around the media like some celeb parents do.
If nothing else… this child will have the most fantastic of dressing up boxes to play with!!
