REVIEW: Tommee Tippee – Closer to Nature Feeding Bottles

With my first son I used a different, cheaper brand of bottle, mainly because it was a name I had heard before and had seen other Mums use. They were ok, but I found that they leaked easily (just what you need – a soggy changing bag!) and very quickly the bottles looked scruffy and marked from normal washing and sterilising and this meant that the measuring amounts up the side soon faded.

For obvious reasons when I fell pregnant this time with Taylor, I was looking for another brand and Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature bottles had been recommended. Now I see why. Six weeks on, none of the above mentioned fading or leaking problems for a start! This a biggie for me to be honest, I like babies, especially new babies to have everything looking nice, so my gorgeous newborn with a dirty-looking bottle just doesn’t do it for me!

I have found these very easy to clean, the wider bottles really allowing you to get down with your bottle brush and ensure nothing is lurking, and the white cuff which holds the teat, holds it fast so no leaking and milk getting stuck underneath.

Taylor is a hungry baby, just as his brother was, gulping milk as if I was going to run off with it any second. This  meant with Kieran that he tended to take extra air and a windy baby, particularly one who tended to have a huge burb followed by bringing milk back up, is not a happy baby! Seeing as I have used Tommee Tippee exclusively since Taylor was born, I can’t directly compare them to another brand, however I feel that the design of these Closer To Nature Bottles, with a super-sensitive anti-colic valve and optimum venting during feeding goes a long way to achieving a smooth and settled, non-windy feed!

These bottles are available in two sizes, 5 fl oz and 9 fl oz bottles which means you can reduce the space used in your change bag considerably when using the up-to 5oz bottles. Once your baby goes past the 5oz feed amount-wise these are still perfect for cooled-boiled water drinks.

An added plus for me is shape of the bottle, making it easy to hold the bottle regardless of what position I’m feeding in (and the wannabe trendy mum in me just likes the shape and design because I think it looks good!).

Being new to Tommee Tippee I wasn’t sure how I would get on with these bottles but have to say I am very pleased. I’m looking forward to exploring more of the range!

Ratings-wise I would give these bottles a 4.5/5 – the only reason it’s not a 5/5 is that I haven’t tried another brand of bottle with Taylor so can’t compare directly on the same baby!

  1. Could not agree more!! I used a very well known brand with first son-and they were a nightmare for leaking (both in bag and during feeding!). With second son, I decided a change was in order, so on the recommendation of a friend I changed to these. FAN-DABBY-DOSY!!!! I even managed to convert a friend who had also used the other brand for babies 1&2. She loved them too!!

    1. Hmm sounds very familiar, I thought it was just me not screwing tops on etc with the original brand but many people have said the same. Pain in the backside! I’d definitely recommend them to friends and family too.

  2. I used these with both my children as the are also designed to replicate more of a breast shape with the wide doomed teat. Perfect for combined feeding … which was uber important with my 2nd child as my 1st was only 16mths so still a baby himself. I know alot of my mummy friends found other brands hard to swap between, but I never had any issues with my two and Daddy got to feed them giving me a break 🙂

    1. Honestly – I’m not sure how I missed TT first time around! I have fully bottle-fed both, so it’s good to hear a personal recommendation for combined feeding as it wasn’t something I could comment on.
I can however comment on the importance of Daddy being able to have his turn lol!

  3. I agree Nicky – I bought these when expecting Elliott, my first baby, as I did some research into the best bottles for use when combining breast and bottle feeding (expressed milk). So far they haven’t let us down! Elliott is now 8 weeks old, and we’ve been using the bottles since I brought him home from hospital. They’re showing no signs of wear so far.

    1. Wow – is Elliot 8 weeks already!? Mind you Taylor will be 6 weeks tomorrow. Seems to be flying by in some ways but in truth I can’t really remember Taylor not being here.
These bottles definitely seem to be popular!
