REVIEW: Tommee Tippee – Closer to Nature Feeding Bottles

With my first son I used a different, cheaper brand of bottle, mainly because it was a name I had heard before and had seen other Mums use. They were ok, but I found that they leaked easily (just what you need – a soggy changing bag!) and very quickly the bottles looked scruffy and marked from normal washing and sterilising and this meant that the measuring amounts up the side soon faded.

For obvious reasons when I fell pregnant this time with Taylor, I was looking for another brand and Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature bottles had been recommended. Now I see why. Six weeks on, none of the above mentioned fading or leaking problems for a start! This a biggie for me to be honest, I like babies, especially new babies to have everything looking nice, so my gorgeous newborn with a dirty-looking bottle just doesn’t do it for me!

I have found these very easy to clean, the wider bottles really allowing you to get down with your bottle brush and ensure nothing is lurking, and the white cuff which holds the teat, holds it fast so no leaking and milk getting stuck underneath.

Taylor is a hungry baby, just as his brother was, gulping milk as if I was going to run off with it any second. This  meant with Kieran that he tended to take extra air and a windy baby, particularly one who tended to have a huge burb followed by bringing milk back up, is not a happy baby! Seeing as I have used Tommee Tippee exclusively since Taylor was born, I can’t directly compare them to another brand, however I feel that the design of these Closer To Nature Bottles, with a super-sensitive anti-colic valve and optimum venting during feeding goes a long way to achieving a smooth and settled, non-windy feed!

These bottles are available in two sizes, 5 fl oz and 9 fl oz bottles which means you can reduce the space used in your change bag considerably when using the up-to 5oz bottles. Once your baby goes past the 5oz feed amount-wise these are still perfect for cooled-boiled water drinks.

An added plus for me is shape of the bottle, making it easy to hold the bottle regardless of what position I’m feeding in (and the wannabe trendy mum in me just likes the shape and design because I think it looks good!).

Being new to Tommee Tippee I wasn’t sure how I would get on with these bottles but have to say I am very pleased. I’m looking forward to exploring more of the range!

Ratings-wise I would give these bottles a 4.5/5 – the only reason it’s not a 5/5 is that I haven’t tried another brand of bottle with Taylor so can’t compare directly on the same baby!

Cosatto Cabi- Weather Endurance test!! #Review

If you’ve been unconscious or locked in a dark, and well heated room for the past 6 weeks…. we’ve had a spot of cool weather. When I say cool, I mean it has been blooming freezing!!

Just a LITTLE bit of snow to contend with! (Picture taken by my Mum!)
Being something of a buggy tart I was itching to get out and about to show off my new arrival (the Baby as well as the Cabi!) when it arrived, however the snow, then ice, then slush, then more ice put me off especially as I’d only recently had a c-section and to be honest have been terrified of slipping and my insides popping out!

Just under two weeks after Taylor was born Roy’s paternity leave ended and I was on my own, with the crap weather and with the school run to do.

The Cabi in “Pram” mode.

All I can say is thank goodness for the Cabi! As well as being perfect for Taylor, size and comfort-wise, it’s modern and somewhat funky design in no way dilutes it’s sturdiness! So easy to manoeuvre without being flimsy, I have had little trouble doing the school run, shopping and visiting, despite some areas being absolutely atrocious! I have to say though, the school run for the first couple of days was so funny as I got as many (if not more!) comments on the Cabi than on Taylor!!

The rain cover that comes included with the Cabi is suitable for use in all set ups ( ie pram or pushchair mode) and is very easy to attach. Rain-covers I always find a bit of a faff, and I despise the fact that nine times out of ten whatever is in the shopping basket always gets soaking wet through. This all-over, easy to fit rain-cover avoids this, covering the entire buggy and protecting the shopping basket below. There are no ties or poppers to fight with as the cover attaches firmly with just two velcro strips on either side.

I particularly like the smooth navigation, which helped me skirt around icy patches etc but also the  sturdy rear wheels which seem to grip the ground.
So, snow, ice, wind, slush.. all in the extreme of course.. and the Cabi came up trumps! A warm and safe baby, a sturdy frame so safe Mummy (and Kieran who holds the pram to walk to school!), a rain-cover that is easy to fit, protects the entire buggy and of course the basket contents all spell out 10/10 to me for the weather endurance test!!

I have to say, so far it hasn’t been a hardship putting the Cabi through it’s paces. Keep your eyes open for more Cosatto exploits.
